Vous incarnez Le Scythe, personnage appartenant à un peuple habitant dans la plaine, réputé pour sa magie. Vous vous retrouvez dans une montagne avec pour compagnie une famille de bergers. C'est ainsi que vous faites la connaissance d'un bûcheron nommé Logfella, d'une fille aux cheveux noirs simplement appelée La Fille, et du chien Dogfella.
Tout le long du jeu vous êtes assisté par un drôle de type en costume-cravate qui se fait appeler L'Archetype, sorte de narrateur omniscient qui interviendra entre les 4 « sessions » du jeu.
Votre quête consiste à sauver des esprits grâce au pouvoir des Scythes en résolvant nombre d'énigmes, vous êtes aidé par un livre spécial qui vous permettra de voir ce que pense les gens autour de vous.
Vous avez un ennemi du nom de "ombre profonde" ou "deep shadow" à qui vous aurez dérobé le Megatome et qu'il vous faudra fuir. [Wikipedia]
