What if an “Euthanasia Bill” were passed in Japan?
The “Euthanasia Bill” is passed in the National Diet, and a facility named “Hitorishizuka” is established as a national strategic special zone. This facility, where those who wish for euthanasia can reside and receive care, becomes a controversial existence at the forefront of ethics and politics.
Sako Shotaro, a rapper suffering from an incurable disease with no hope of recovery, continues to weave words while finding solace in hip-hop, even as he endures the progression of his illness. Living together with him is Fujioka Ayumi, a journalist he met in Tibet. Even now, after Shotaro has been given six months to live, the two oppose euthanasia and move into “Hitorishizuka” with the aim of exposing the facility’s reality from within.
At the facility live residents with various circumstances, including Ikeda, who suffers from terminal cancer, and his wife Tamami, as well as Maya, a former manzai comedian with dementia who wishes to be allowed to die before losing herself completely.
