The setting of the story is Tokyo in 2026, a city where the atmosphere of Edo still lingers strongly, yet human desire and power have swollen to excess. In this world, a disease known as “Yoka,” in which the ugliness of one’s heart manifests in one’s outward appearance, is rampant.
Shiraishi Sumi is a girl from a shrine maiden lineage tasked with protecting the nation’s order, and a shrine maiden-in-training who inherits an extraordinary power that can “turn prayers into blades.” Under her mother, Yui, who is also the head of the Shiraishi family, Sumi undergoes daily training. However, being too gentle by nature, she is unable to find meaning in fighting, falls behind her younger sister Shizu, and cannot properly control her powers.
Then one day, Sumi meets a transfer student, Kuon Masaki, and for the first time comes to know “love.” However, that love is the “beginning” of the world’s destruction.
