Canned Mackerel Heads to Space

24-year-old Asano Shunichi is a rookie teacher who finally manages to make two of his biggest dreams come true at the same time — becoming a teacher and living close to the ocean he loves. He is assigned to Wakasa Fisheries High School, located in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture. On his first day, he is very happy and full of hope. But another teacher tells him, “Why did you come here? This school is going to close.” The school has few students, and it is expensive to run, so it might be shut down.
Asano is shocked, but he still goes to teach his first class. None of the students listens to him, and he feels like he is not good enough. Even so, he does not give up. Slowly, his warm, honest, and cheerful personality makes the students, other teachers, and local people like him, and he starts to feel at home there.
